Closed Loop Water Treatment Services
Diversified Water Solutions provides specialist water treatment programs for closed loop heating and cooling systems, including chilled water circuits, heating loops, HVAC systems, and process closed loops. Although closed systems do not experience the same make-up water turnover as cooling towers, they are highly susceptible to corrosion, microbiological growth, and fouling if not managed correctly. Our closed loop programs are designed to protect system metallurgy, maintain heat transfer efficiency, and extend asset life.
We develop site-specific treatment programs based on system design, operating temperature, metallurgy, and water quality. Typical services include initial system assessment, water analysis, inhibitor selection, cleaning and passivation where required, and ongoing monitoring. Treatment strategies may incorporate corrosion inhibitors, dispersants, biocides, and pH control to stabilise water chemistry and prevent issues such as general corrosion, under-deposit attack, microbiological fouling, and particulate build-up.
A critical part of our assessment process is identifying system metallurgy, including aluminium heat exchangers and boilers, which require specialised treatment programs. Aluminium systems operate within narrow pH limits and are highly sensitive to conventional closed loop chemistries. Where aluminium components are present, treatment strategies are adjusted accordingly, using compatible inhibitors and controlled pH ranges to prevent pitting, dissolution, and premature equipment failure.
For new installations or recommissioned systems, we provide pre-commission cleaning and passivation to remove construction debris, oils, mill scale, and residual contaminants prior to inhibitor dosing. This critical step establishes clean internal surfaces and promotes formation of protective films, reducing the risk of early-life corrosion and long-term reliability issues. Existing systems experiencing performance problems can also be chemically cleaned to remove iron oxide, sludge, and organic fouling before being returned to service under a controlled treatment program.
Ongoing closed loop management includes routine water testing, inhibitor residual monitoring, corrosion risk assessment, and system inspections as required. Where appropriate, we also support corrosion monitoring through test coupons or probes, allowing performance to be quantified and treatment programs fine-tuned. Results are clearly reported and supported by practical recommendations, ensuring clients have visibility of system condition and treatment effectiveness.
